International Women’s Day offers the perfect context: she has been developing a hybrid visual language of the female figure over many years, most recently in a 25 metre long canvas that functions as a wry commentary on contemporary constructs of womanhood. The impulse of the work is to challenge, resist and critique stereotypical representations of the female form by depicting woman as the protagonist; bringing her centre-stage, to hold her own space…
‘To move freely with energy in the world is an extraordinary ideal. Women should have this room for possibility.’ Nancy Spero.
