DESCRIPTION
April 2011 The 60th Anniversary of The Festival of Britain, Southbank Centre London: I worked with Colette Bailey of Metal commissioning the artist-cutomized beach huts outside The Royal Festival Hall, including one of my own designs and an installation based on the English Gothic – a shell grotto. My design referenced the iconic Lucienne Day textiles of the early 1950s, employing fractal motifs and a pixelated effect to make the nostalgic contemporary.
I also curated a group show ‘Neopolitan’ inside one of the beach huts designed by Grenville Davey. The show reflected English seaside culture with all the distorted sense of ‘fun’ and expectation, kitsch and ‘edginess’ of the modern resort.
