‘What the Doll Said’ installation at TAP gallery

Date: November 21, 2014 Category: ,

A seven day residency at TAP (Temporary Art Space) Southend-on-Sea in 2013. I made wall drawings that manifested research into the notion that drawing is ‘inherently uncanny’ in that it can be said to have a ‘live charge’ and transformative potential. The motif of the Doll refers to its role as a transformative object or ‘prop’.

As the drawings were made in an open access space rather than ‘behind closed doors’ of the studio, there was a distinctly performative element to the work as I drew, defaced, destroyed and finally deleted the entire work by painting over  it all and restoring the white walls
