December 2009 –I was a selected artist for ’15 Artists 15 Days’ to make work directly onsite in Firstsite’s temporary gallery, transforming the space into a kind of ‘Closing Down Sale at The Museum’.
I was excited by the fact that the project was ‘live’ with a window directly on to the street and Christmas shoppers: an instant ‘one day’ temporary action. I worked with the trails and traces left by the previous artists and incorporated their fragments and debris into my own drawings and installation.
Scale and perception were distorted via my drawn interventions throughout the fabric of the building which made reference to the identity of the space as a former shop premises. The day convinced me of the freshness and immediacy of direct interaction with found spaces.
